Juneteenth Art Exhibition

Calling all artists! The St. Joseph Museums is presenting an excellent opportunity to place your artwork on view during Juneteenth 2023 Festivities.

Eligibility: The exhibition is open to anyone over 13 of age in the United States during the 2023 year. All artworks must be the original work of the submitting artist and be in accordance with Juneteenth theme.

Guidelines:

All media (2D and 3D) are eligible. Maximum size: 60” in length, width and height. 50 pound maximum for all works. Artists must provide their own pedestals for 3D art. No artwork may be suspended from the ceiling. All Selected Artwork must arrive appropriately framed and/or mounted and ready for presentation or hanging. Two-dimensional work must be ready to hang with appropriate hardware and wiring installed. Works on paper must be matted and framed under glass.

• Artists are permitted to list their works for sale. The Juneteenth Planning Committee takes a 20% commission on all sales during the exhibition. Artist will be the sole responsibility of facilitating the sale.

• Artists will be responsible for all shipping costs to and from the museum. Enclosure of a prepaid return label when mailing artworks is preferred. Accepted entries may be hand delivered on or by the specified date as well. The St. Joseph Museums reserves the right to use accepted images for publicity purposes.

Calendar:

May 15^th: Submission Deadline. Judging will be completed soon after. Artist notification of selection sent via email.

June 1^st:Deadline of delivery of accepted artwork (Mail or hand deliver by 5pm St. Joseph Museums - 3406 Frederick Ave, St Joseph, MO 64506).

June 15^th-18^th Opening Reception of Art Exhibition. Prizes of 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd announced. 1st Prize - $250; 2nd Prize - $150; 3rd Prize - $100

June 19^th: Exhibition closes, return of shipped artwork within 10 business days.

June 20^th: Pick up of hand-delivered artwork by 5pm. Artworks not picked up within 30 days will be subject to disposal.

Submission of Images:

Entries must include a photo of the artwork. Please include a photograph of each work separately, if entering more than one piece. Please avoid distracting backgrounds. Digital photo files must be in .jpg format and no larger than 1MB. Each file must be named with artist's name, entry number, title, medium, year of creation (for example: Conway_ Entry 1_Spirit of Missouri_oiloncanvas_2010.jpg). Digital photos may be submitted via email. Although digital photo files of artwork are preferred, 4 x 6 size printed photos will also be accepted if each photo is labeled on the back, with the artist's name, title, medium and dimensions, and year of creation and delivered to the St. Joseph Museums. CD of digital files may also be delivered to the St. Joseph Museums. Photos and CDs will not be returned. You must follow this process to be eligible for the exhibition.
